We needed a car! Not a new car, not a fancy car … a solid, reliable car that would be comfortable for everyone. Enter Nick Dunning, fleet care manager. Nick knew of our need and kept his eyes open for us. When an older car became available from the fleet of security cars, Nick scooped it up for PORT.

When we said that some clients may want privacy rather than riding in an Island Health fleet car, Nick had the logos scraped off and replaced with removable magnet logos.

The Palliative Outreach Resource Team (PORT) is a collaboration of the University of Victoria, Island Health, Victoria Cool Aid and many other community partners. PORT is part of a program that brings holistic, compassionate end-of-life care and support to people in poverty. One of the ways we remove barriers for people is by visiting them and bringing them to their health care appointments.

Nick, thank you for your innovation and creativity in securing this care for these folks. You have made a very big difference for the PORT clients and team members.
