Dr. Stajduhar and her team work collectively to enact change and deconstruct barriers that prevent access to quality care for both people who are facing serious illness and their caregivers. Through working with members of the community, health and social care systems, and government, her program of research has led to the development of programs and policy changes to improve people’s care experiences.

Dr. Stajduhar is a leader in equity-oriented palliative approaches to care. Her work is shaped by early experiences as a nurse working in the AIDS epidemic and her passion for ensuring people get the care they want and that is aligned with their wishes.

In 2021, Dr. Stajduhar was awarded a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Palliative Approaches to Care in Aging and Community Health. Her research focuses on three core thematic areas:

Formal and informal caregiving

Palliative approaches to care for people experiencing structural vulnerability

Optimizing home and community-based care for aging populations
